GUSTAVO GIMENO TOURS IN EUROPE AND KOREA
21/4/2023
This spring, Gustavo Gimeno embarks on two tours with Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg: in April, they are touring Europe with percussionist Martin Grubinger; followed by a Korean tour in May with cellist Jae Min Han.
The European tour takes them to Geneva, Vienna and Budapest. The program opens with Ligeti’s Concert Românesc – based in part on Romanian folk music –, followed by the centerpiece of the night: Daníel Bjarnason’s spectacular Concerto for Solo Percussion and Orchestra Inferno, written specifically for Martin Grubinger. The evening closes with Nikolaï Rimski-Korsakov’s dazzling symphonic poem Sheherazade.
For the Korean tour, Gimeno and the OPL start in Incheon and continue on to Seoul and Gyeongnam before playing their last concert in Daegu. They are joined by South Korean cellist Jae Min Han, who first came to international attention in May 2021 when he became the youngest ever Grand Prix winner of the George Enescu International Competition. He is set to perform Dvořák’s famous Concerto for violoncello. The concerto is followed by Tchaïkovski’s Symphony No.5, the musical reflection of a troubled time.
