Emma Bell and Alex Otterburn make their role debuts as Ellen Orford and Ned Keene in Paul Curran’s new production of Peter Grimes for Teatro La Fenice. Performances open on 24 June, conducted by Juraj Valčuha.
Next season features two further role debuts for Bell, appearing as Emilia Marty in WNO’s new production of Vēc Makropulos at the Janacek Festival conducted by Tomáš Hanus, and as the Foreign Princess in a new staging of Rusalka at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden under Semyon Bychkov.
Alex Otterburn meanwhile continues to distinguish himself in this repertoire, with his ‘clarion-voiced’ (Opera Today, 2021) debut as Demetrius and upcoming debuts ahead in Gloriana with English National Opera and further ahead as Novice’s Friend in Billy Budd.
