29/4/2022
Taavi Oramo makes his debut with the Hong Kong Philharmonic in May, conducting for the first time in Asia and leading the Orchestra in two distinct and contrasting programmes over a double-week period. On 6 and 7 May he directs a ‘Sounds of the Sea’ programme, taking the audience and players alike on a fantastic ocean voyage, with music by Sibelius, Debussy, Takemitsu, John Williams and Heta Aho, while on 13 and 14 May he returns for a “Magnificent Mendelssohn”programme, featuring the composer’s rarely performed Konzertstück No.2 (with soloists Andrew Simon and Lorenzo Iosco), Piano Concerto No.1 (with Hong Kong-born pianist Aristo Sham) and ending with his Symphony No.4. All concerts take place at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.
