11/12/2020
On 13 December, physicist Professor Brian Cox joins the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor Dalia Stasevska at the Barbican Centre to explore the questions raised by music and the Cosmos concerning eternity, death and rebirth. Cox draws on spectacular imagery and discoveries from 21st century cosmology to begin to provide some answers, while Stasevska conducts the Orchestra in works by composers who grappled with these same questions through their music.
The programme will be as follows:
Jean Sibelius, Symphony No 5, mv III (arr Iain Farrington)
Charles Ives, The Unanswered Question
Gustav Mahler, Symphony No 10, mv I (arr Michelle Castelletti)
The concert is open to limited audience, available to be streamed live from home and for 48 hours after the concert.
