Barbara Hannigan to receive 2020 ‘Glashütte Original Music Festival Award’
17/3/2020
Soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan is amongst the most charismatic musical personalities of our time. It is with a passion that she dedicates her life not only to her stage projects but also to passing on her own experiences to young musicians at the beginning of their professional careers with her mentoring program Equilibrium Young Artists, which she founded in 2017. The programme pursues a holistic concept, with which singers are comprehensively prepared for demanding artistic profession. For this commitment, Barbara Hannigan will be awarded the Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward at the 43rd Dresden Music Festival. The award ceremony will follow her concert with the Münchner Philharmoniker on 28 May in the Kulturpalast Dresden.
“Barbara Hannigan is a creative volcano! She is one of the most innovative artists in today’s musical world. The courageous commitment to support young musicians she has shown from the beginning of her career has been particularly extraordinary and impressive. This is why she is ideally suited for the Glashütte Original MusicFestival Award which honours artists who share cultural experiences with younger generations,” says Jan Vogler, director of the Dresden Music Festival.
Last year’s award winners include world-famous artists such as Hélène Grimaud, Hilary Hahn, fado singer Mariza, Andris Nelsons, Steven Isserlis, Joyce DiDonato and violinist Joshua Bell.
The 43rd Dresden Music Festival takes place from 12 May to 12 June, 2020.
