Klaus Mäkelä debuts with Bamberg Symphony Orchestra

Portrait artist with Bamberger Symphoniker this season, Sol Gabetta joins forces with Klaus Mäkelä to perform Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No.1 on 29 and 30 November 2019. The programme for Mäkelä’s debut with the Orchestra includes Sibelius’ Lemminkäinen Suite and the German premiere of Sauli Zinovjev’s Batteria.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Mäkelä will make his first appearances with the NDR Elbphilharmonie, Münchner Philharmoniker, Orchestra, Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orquesta Nacional de España, London Philharmonic, and City of Birmingham Symphony orchestras.
Further ahead, Sol Gabetta joins Bamberg Symphony on tour throughout Germany and Spain under the baton of Jakub Hrůša. A respected advocate for lesser known works, Sol Gabetta concludes her Bamberg residency illuminating, under the direction of Krzysztof Urbański, Weinberg’s Cello Concerto. Gabetta is currently also Artist-in-Residence with Staatskapelle Dresden where she opened the 2019/20 season with four acclaimed performances of Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No.1 under the direction of Daniele Gatti. As part of the residency, she will also join forces with Christian Thielemann and Tugan Sokhiev.
