29/3/2019
Chief Conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Susanna Mälkki leads the Orchestra in a five-concert tour spanning four countries this April. The Orchestra alternates between two programmes: the first featuring Wennäkoski’s Flounce and Sibelius’s Symphony No.2 in Dortmund on 7 April, in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw) 8 April and in Vienna (Konzerthaus) on 10 April, the second Sibelius’s En Saga and Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 in Katowice on 11 April and in Warsaw (Philharmonic Concert Hall) on 12 April. Throughout the tour, Mälkki and the HPO are joined by fellow HP artist Pekka Kuusisto to perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.
Mälkki returns to Vienna later this season to resume her role of 2018/19-season Portrait Artist at the Wiener Konzerthaus: on 25, 26 and 27 April she conducts the Wiener Symphoniker in a programme featuring excerpts from Wagner’s Parsifal, Bartók’s Piano Concerto No.3 (with pianist Andreas Haefliger) and R. Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra. On 14 June Susanna she directs the Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien in music by Zemlinsky (Sinfonietta and Six Maeterlinck Songs – featuring soprano Petra Lang) and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.
