25/1/2019
On 29 January Susanna Mälkki returns to the Opéra national de Paris to conduct Robert Carsen’s production of Dvořák’s Rusalka. With modern costume and set designs by Michael Levine, the production – created for the Opéra and first performed in 2001 – features a stellar cast including Karita Mattila as the Foreign Princess and Klaus Florian Vogt as the Prince, and spans six performances, concluding on 13 February at the Opéra Bastille.
Susanna Mälkki’s last set of performances for the Opéra national de Paris were in 2017, when she conducted the world premiere of Luca Francesconi’s Trompe-la-Mort at the Palais Garnier. The Financial Times described Mälkki’s direction as “formidable, her clarity gives the evening form and momentum”.
