Elim Chan makes her debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in concerts welcoming the Chinese Year of the Boar. The programme captures the festive excitement about the arrival of the Lunar New Year with works by contemporary Chinese composers including traditional Beijing Opera Singers, folk instruments and dancers combined with excerpts from operas such as Borodin’s Prince Igor and Tchaikovsky’s Eugen Onegin. Concerts take place on 1 and 2 February at Sydney Opera House with the first concert streamed live on the Orchestra’s website.
From Down-Under Elim Chan heads to the US for another Chinese New Year celebration, then with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in performances of a newly commissioned piece by Chinese composer Yu Dun and works by Saint-Saëns and Ravel (6, 7 February, Walt Disney Concert Hall). Other upcoming highlights this season are Elim Chan’s debuts with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
