John Adams returns to the Oslo Philharmonic and Santa Cecilia
19/10/2018
John Adams makes a welcome return to the Oslo Philharmonic this week to conduct an all-Adams programme featuring Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Tromba Lontana, Dr. Atomic Symphony and his “dramatic symphony for violin and orchestra” Scheherazade.2 (together with soloist Leila Josefowicz, for whom the concerto was specially written). The concert takes place on Thursday 25 October at the Oslo Concert Hall.
Adams then travels on to Rome, returning to the Orchestra e Coro dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia after 13 years to conduct his opera-oratorio The Gospel according to the Other Mary. The performances – featuring acclaimed singers Kelley O’Connor, Elizabeth DeShong and Jay Hunter Morris, among others – take place on 2, 3 and 4 November at the Auditorium Parco Della Musica, and the first performance will be broadcast live on Rai Radio Tre.
