Lawrence Renes conducts Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in memory of Oliver Knussen
14/9/2018
Following the saddening news concerning the passing of Oliver Knussen, Lawrence Renes replaces the legendary composer-conductor with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra on 22 September at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.
The programme opens with a special dedication to Knussen by performing his Flourish with Fireworks, this is then followed by Takemitsu’s Orion and Pleiades for Cello and Orchestra (Jean-Guihen Queyras) and Holst’s The Planets Suite. Shortly after this Renes will head to China to conduct George Benjamin’s iconic Written on Skin with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the Beijing Music Festival.
