Stephen Hough becomes RPS honorary member
11/6/2018
Stephen Hough has been awarded Honorary Membership by the Royal Philharmonic Society.
The award, which was presented on 31 May at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall following Hough’s performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3 with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, is “in recognition of his virtuosic command of his instrument, the intelligence and insight of his beautifully crafted interpretations, and of his achievements as a multitalented creative life force.”
The award – of which Hough is the 141st recipient – continues his long association with the Society; in 1980 he won the RPS Julius Isserlis Prize, which enabled him to study at the Juilliard School in New York, and in 2009 the RPS Music Award for Instrumentalist.
