Patricia Kopatchinskaja begins Ojai Festival Music Directorship

Violinist and collaborator, Patricia Kopatchinskaja takes up her position as Music Director of the 72nd Ojai Music Festival this week. The festival has a long history of bringing both core classical and contemporary music to the fore with its varied programming and this year promises to be no exception.
Described by Festival Director, Tom Morris as a ‘force of nature’, Kopatchinskaja opens this year’s festival with a free community concert entitled ‘Sonic Embrace’ featuring Luigi Nono’s La Lontananza nostalgica utopica future. Other highlights include the American premiere of her first staged project, Bye Bye Beethoven, the West Coast premiere of her second project, Dies Irae and a host of other concerts and community events.

After Ojai, Kopatchinskaja will continue to tour parts of the festival giving concerts in Berkeley (14 and 16 June) and appear as part of the Aldeburgh Festival (20, 22 and 23 June)
