Daníel Bjarnason has been awarded the 8th Harpa Nordic Film Composers Award for the soundtrack he composed for the Icelandic film Under the Tree, by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson.
Bjarnason was not able to be present at the award ceremony, but recorded an acceptance speech and dedicated the award to the late Jóhann Jóhannsson.
Bjarnason’s composition was nominated alongside four other composers namely:
- Kristian Selin Eidnes Andersen (Denmark) for the score of Sámi Blood by Amanda Kernell
- Miska and Juri Seppä (Finland) for the film Tatu & Patu by Rike Jokela
- Henrik Skram (Norway) for the TV series Snowfall by Synne Teksum
- Björn Olsson (Sweden) for the film The Giant by Johannes Nyholm.
The jury of this year’s Harpa awards comprise film composers Christine Aufderhaar (Switzerland), Brian Satterwhite (USA), and Nuno Freire Malo (Portugal).
The Harpa Nordic Film Music Days ceremony was held at Berlin’s Nordische Botschaften,Tiergarten, on 18 February.
