Following on from the enormously successful premiere of his opera Brothers in Aarhus last week, Daníel Bjarnason’s Violin Concerto will be receive its world premiere by Pekka Kuusisto with the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl on 22 August. Continuing his close association with both orchestras, the concerto was commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. 

Beginning the 2017/18 season, Kuusisto tours with ACO Collective in Australia, and then in Europe with the Philharmonia and Esa-Pekka Salonen performing both the Bjarnason and Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.1. He opens the Philharmonia’s London season with the UK premiere of the Bjarnason’s Violin Concerto. Other autumn highlights include performances of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.1, and the French premiere of the Bjarnason with Orchestre de Paris and Osmo Vänskä, as well as appearances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. 

After intense months of composing, Daniel Bjarnason focusses on conducting during the autumn. He returns to Reykjavik to conduct the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and makes his conducting debuts with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and Liepaja Symphony Orchestra.
