9/2/2018
Following on from the opening of his new Wigmore Hall residency in December, Christian Tetzlaff returns on 11 February to present a chamber music program dedicated to Schubert. Tetzlaff performs the String Quintet in C major and also a collection of songs Schwanengesang.
A regular performer in the hall and a previous Artist in Residence in the 2012/13 season, this season’s residency will continue in May with a concert by the Tetzlaff Quartet in an all-Beethoven programme; and completing the residency in June with a concert featuring different composers, again with the Tetzlaff Quartet, and also with Jörg Widmann, who performs solo and joins the quartet for one of the works.
Of the opening concert of this residency, a duo recital with pianist Lars Vogt, The Independent said: “[The programme (…) Brahms’s three violin sonatas, followed by a Brahms encore] allowed us to savour Tetzlaff’s unusual artistry. No other violinist so steadfastly abjures the seductive capacities of their instrument, its luxurious warmth and potential range of colour.” (5‑stars)
