Pierre-Laurent Aimard embarks on a tour of Asia, beginning with a performance at Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts on 30 November. Aimard then joins forces with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and Charles Dutoit performing Ravel’s Concerto for left hand in two concerts at NHK Hall on 2 and 3 December as part of an all-Ravel programme commemorating the 80th anniversary of the composer’s death. This is followed by a recital at Tokyo Opera City (6 Dec) featuring Messiaen’s Vingt regards sur l’enfant-Jésus and at Urayasu’s Toyota City Concert Hall in a programme of works by Schubert and Debussy.
Earlier this month, Aimard performed a European tour with Australian Chamber Orchestra, which included concerts at Helsinki’s PianoEspoo, Munich’s Herkulessaal, Vienna’s Konzerthaus and London’s Royal Festival Hall as part of Aimard’s Artist-in-Residence position at the Southbank Centre. Aimard also performed Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major at the DR Koncerthuset, joined by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and David Afkham. This month concluded with performances of Bach’s Goldberg Variations at the Cambridge Music Festival (17 Nov) and as part of the Rudolf Firkusny Piano Festival at Rudolfinum’s Dvořák Hall (25 Nov).
