Barbara Hannigan and Kim Begley in Hamlet world premiere
2/6/2017
Barbara Hannigan and Kim Begley join forces at the Glyndebourne Festival this summer in the anticipated world premiere of Brett Dean’s Hamlet. Conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, performances run from 11 June to 6 July.
In her first appearance at the summer festival, Barbara Hannigan brings her wealth of contemporary expertise to the stage, having most extensively collaborated with composers such as Abrahamsen, Boulez, Dutilleux, Sciarrino, Stockhausen, Barry and Dusapin in the past. Recent opera roles include Lulu in Christoph Marthaler’s production of Berg’s Lulu with Staatsoper Hamburg, Marie in Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten at Bayerische Staatsoper, Elle in Poulenc’s La voix humaine at Opéra national de Paris and Agnès in Benjamin’s Written on Skin at the Royal Opera House in London. She completes the 2016/17 season in the title role of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande at the Ruhrtriennale 2017 festival, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski.
British tenor Kim Begley makes a welcome return to Lewes this summer having debuted a number of roles which form an integral part of his long-running international career at the Festival. After Glyndebourne, his festival reign continues when he heads to the Tanglewood Music Festival as Loge (Das Rheingold) alongside Ain Anger’s Fafner under Andris Nelsons, and reprises the role of Polonius in Hamlet at the 2018 Adelaide Festival.
