Patricia Kopatchinskaja appointed as Camerata Bern’s Artistic Director

Patricia Kopatchinskaja has been appointed as Camerata Bern’s new Artistic Director from the 2018/19 season. Unanimously elected by the orchestra, Kopatchinskaja succeeds Antje Weithaas and holds the position for an initial three years.
Kopatchinskaja, who has lived in Bern for many years, has previously performed with Camerata Bern as guest leader and soloist, and has even composed a piece for the ensemble. As Artistic Director, she will work with the orchestra on new projects, programmes and compositions, as well as appearing as soloist in Bern, touring with the orchestra and working on recording projects.
The next two months are particularly busy for Kopatchinskaja, guest engagements include Gothenburg Symphony with Peter Eötvös playing his own DoReMi, Sibelius’ Violin Concerto with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Krzysztof Urbański, Konzerthausorchester Berlin with Iván Fischer and the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo.
