Anne Sofie von Otter and Audrey Luna in The Exterminating Angel
21/4/2017
Anne Sofie von Otter and Audrey Luna reprise their roles of Leonora and Leticia respectively in Thomas Adès’ The Exterminating Angel. Directed by librettist Tom Cairns for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden following its world premiere at the 2016 Salzburger Festspiele, the composer himself conducts the performances which open on 24 April.
A constantly evolving artist, von Otter’s diary pits the contemporary repertoire of Weill, Schoenberg, Berg and Bernstein alongside Schubert, Mahler, Berlioz and Offenbach. She continues her exploration of today’s living composers this Autumn when she stars in Finnish National Opera’s world premiere of Sebastian Fagerlund’s Höstsonaten (Autumn Sonata) based on the legendary Ingmar Bergman’s film of the same name.
These performances mark Audrey Luna’s debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and follow her recent, highly-acclaimed London debut with Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra in Peter Sellars’ staging of Ligeti’s Le grand macabre. The role of Leticia was specially written for Luna after her runaway success as Ariel in Ades’ first operatic outing The Tempest and showcases her incredible range and diversity.
