Golda Schultz, Lilli Paasikivi and Derek Welton join forces with the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester and Stefan Asbury singing Tippett’s A Child of Our Time on 2 & 3 February.
Around her impressive operatic commitments, Golda Schultz is a regular presence on the concert platform, with recent and upcoming appearances including with Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie at the Musikfestival Heidelberger Frühling under Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, at the BBC Proms, with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra under John Storgårds, and with Washington’s National Symphony Orchestra under Christoph Eschenbach.
A top choice for conductors around the world in a wealth of repertoire, Lilli Paasikivi’s recent appearances on the concert platform have included Sibelius’ Kullervo with the Minnesota Orchestra and The Tempest with London Philharmonic Orchestra, both under Osmo Vänskä, and Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under Jukka-Pekka Saraste. Next for Lilli are performances of Mahler’s Rückert Lieder with Sinfonieorchester Münster under Fabrizio Ventura.
Following last week’s debut with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (Martinů’s The Epic of Gilgamesh) under Manfred Honeck, these performances of A Child of our Time in Leipzig mark Derek Welton’s debut with Gewandhausorchester. Up next: Derek Welton makes role debuts as Wotan (Das Rheingold) at Deutsche Oper Berlin and as Herzog von Albany in Reimann’s Lear at the Salzburger Festspiele under Franz Welser-Möst.
