Gautier Capuçon performs Beethoven on tour and on disc
25/11/2016
Gautier Capuçon and Frank Braley embark on an eight-day central-European tour, featuring Beethoven’s complete sonatas and variations for cello and piano.
Following recent performances of the same repertoire across France, Germany and Japan, the tour takes them to Pullach (29 November and 1 December), Amsterdam (30 November), Antwerp (2 December), Lyon (3 December), Le-Chaux-de-Fonds (4 December), Clermont-Ferrand (5 December) and Bordeaux (6 December).
The artists’ recent recording of the works for the ERATO label is receiving stellar reviews after its first month of release. Described by Gramophone as “poised, polished, intimate and exuberant”, it was featured in ‘The Strad Recommends’ for December 2016, which remarked: “this significant release looks set to become a landmark in contemporary Beethoven recordings.”
Gautier himself has said about the album: “Recording the complete Beethoven sonatas for cello and piano is a rite of passage in the musical life of a cellist. These sonatas have been part of my life since I was very young and I have been waiting for the right moment to record them, the moment when I felt ready.”
