Gautier Capuçon debuts with Berlin Philharmoniker
5/5/2017
Gautier Capuçon makes his Berlin Philharmoniker debut under the baton of Semyon Bychkov in performances of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No.1 at the Berlin Philharmonie on 12, 13 & 14 May.
Capuçon has recently performed the concerto with orchestras such as Bamberger Symphoniker (Alondra de la Parra), London Symphony Orchestra (Alain Altinoglu), and most recently in his Carnegie Hall debut with the San Francisco Symphony (Michael Tilson Thomas).
“It was the purity of Gautier Capuçon’s playing of the second movement of Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto that stilled the hall … Capucon played with grave sweetness, intensifying his tone in almost imperceptible increments” (The Times, March 2017).
Following his Berlin Philharmoniker debut, Gautier will perform Haydn’s Cello Concerto No.1 with Ensemble Wien Berlin and Rainer Honeck at Vienna’s Musikverein (16 May) and Reykjavik‘s Harpa Hall (19 May), Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with hr-Sinfonieorchester and Andrés Orozco Estrada on their Spanish tour (Barcelona, Madrid and Alicante on 24, 25 and 26 May); and Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and Jukka-Pekka Saraste on their Eastern European tour to Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland (12 – 15 May).
