Kasper Holten’s new Turn of the Screw premieres at La Scala

Kasper Holten’s anticipated new production of Britten’s The Turn of the Screw premieres at Teatro alla Scala on 14 September. Featuring Allison Cook in her role debut as Miss Jessel and conducted by Christoph Eschenbach, performances run to 17 October.
This is Kasper’s first production for La Scala and he will also make his debut at the Bregenz Festival this season with Carmen, following his new Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in the spring.
Returning to Milan, Allison Cook is an experienced exponent in Britten’s repertoire most recently performing Phaedra with the Britten Sinfonia at the Barbican and on tour to China as well as the title role in The Rape of Lucretia. Allison again collaborates with the Britten Sinfonia this season for the world premiere of Gerald Barry’s Alice’s Adventures Under Groundand will reprise the Marquise de Merteuil in Francesconi’s Quartett – one of her signature roles – as her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
