2/9/2016
Having previously conducted the famous event in 2014, Sakari Oramo returns with the BBC Symphony Orchestra to the Royal Albert Hall to conduct the Last Night of the Proms on 10 September. He is joined by Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez, and fellow HarrisonParrott artists Lauren Fagan and Katie Stevenson, who both make their BBC Proms debuts at the event singing Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music.
During this Proms season Oramo has conducted the First Night of the Proms, performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 as well as new works by Charlotte Bray and HK Gruber.
Having just completed the Jette Parker Young Artists’ Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden this summer, Lauren Fagan goes on to make her operatic debut with Welsh National Opera this season as Musetta (La bohème) and, further ahead, will join Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia for concerts with Sir Antonio Pappano.
Embarking on her final year at the Royal Academy of Music, mezzo-soprano Katie Stevenson was the recipient of all three prizes at the 2015 Wagner Society Singing Competition. She has already performed as Unulfo (Rodelinda), Virtù and Venere (L’incoronazione di Poppea), and Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte), all at the Academy, and makes her Wigmore Hall debut this coming season.
