On 30 July the Wiener Philharmoniker and Hungarian Radio Choir perform the world premiere of Peter Eötvös’ HALLELUJA – Oratorium balbulum under the baton of Daniel Harding at the Salzburger Festspiele.
This new work is co-commissioned by the Salzburger Festspiele and Wiener Konzerthaus in collaboration with Wien Modern and is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Foundation, Müpa Budapest — Palace of Arts Nonprofit Ltd, WDR and ACHT BRÜCKEN | Musik für Köln, Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich and Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
As the featured composer at the festival this year, further showcases of Peter Eötvös’ music take place on 1 August when he conducts the Klangforum Wien in three of his works; Shadows, Sonata per sei and Chinese Opera, and then on 3 August the Calder Quartet perform Korrespondenz, Scenes for string quartet.
These performances in Salzburg follow the critically acclaimed UK premiere of Peter Eötvös’ The Golden Dragon by Music Theatre Wales at the Buxton Festival earlier this month. The Guardian described it as “a taut, impressive piece, brilliantly presented”.
