Sol Gabetta makes her BBC Proms debut, performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto at the First Night of the Proms on 15 July with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Conducting the First Night concert for the third time since his appointment as the orchestra’s Chief Conductor is Sakari Oramo. The performance is broadcast live on BBC television and BBC Radio 3, and also features Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Fantasy Overture and Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky, the latter with Olga Borodina.
Watch Sol Gabetta perform an excerpt of Elgar’s Cello Concerto in a unique visual interpretation of the work produced by the BBC for this year’s festival.
Later this summer Sol appears at festivals such as Gstaad, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Rosendal before embarking upon an extensive European tour with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Daniele Gatti which features performances at the Lucerne, Salzburg and Grafenegg festivals amongst others.
Sakari returns to the Royal Albert Hall this summer to conduct three other Proms, 10 and 14 August and the Last Night of the Proms on 10 September.
