18/12/2015
The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (FRSO) and chief conductor Hannu Lintu embark on a tour of Austria, opening with a concert at Wiener Konzerthaus, on 10 January. Joining them on tour is Leila Josefowicz, who presents the Austrian premiere of John Adams’ new work Scheherazade.2 (Dramatic Symphony for Violin and Orchestra).
Before the tour, Lintu, Josefowicz and the FRSO offer the first performance in Finland of Adams’ Scheherazade.2 in Helsinki on 8 January, as well as John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Symphony No.5 by Shostakovich.
As well as Vienna on 10 January, the tour includes performances in Innsbruck (12) and Salzburg (13, 14 and 15) where Josefowicz also performs Sibelius’ Violin Concerto and the orchestra performs Sibelius’ Symphony No.7, Tapiola, The Oceanides and Finlandia.
Leila Josefowicz and the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Alan Gilbert, presented the world premiere of Adams’ Scheherazade.2 in March 2015. Subsequent performances have taken place with the Royal Concertgebouw, London Symphony and Cincinnati Symphony orchestras, while in 2016 Josefowicz will perform this piece with the Sydney Symphony and Toronto Symphony orchestras and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Hannu Lintu and the FRSO have recently released DVD recordings of all Sibelius’ symphonies in celebration of the composer’s 150th birthday. The DVD, by Arthaus Musik, features live recordings from Helsinki Music Centre.
HarrisonParrott is delighted to manage the concerts in Austria on 10, 12, 13, 14 and 15 January.
