Anna Gillingham debuts at Maggio Musicale Firenze alongside John Daszak
15/5/2015
Making her debut as Britten’s Governess, young British soprano Anna Gillingham sings alongside John Daszak’s Quint in Benedetto Sicca’s production of The Turn of the Screw at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Conducted by Jonathan Webb, the performances take place at the city’s new Teatro Goldoni from 22 May.
A recent graduate of The Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s opera course, Anna Gillingham made a surprise appearance earlier this season with Martin Fröst at Vinterfest in Dalarna performing Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen, and makes her debut at Theater Basel next season as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) under Christoph Altstaedt.
A strong exponent of Britten’s works, John Daszak opened the current season as Gustav von Aschenbach (Death in Venice) at Teatro Real in Madrid under Alejo Pérez (recorded for DVD), and already made his debut at The Metropolitan Opera as Captain Vere (Billy Budd) and at La Scala and the Royal Swedish Opera as Peter Grimes. John’s current season draws to a close with his debut at Bayreuther Festspiele as Loge (Das Rheingold).
