This week, American baritone Tobias Greenhalgh sings the role of Cecco in a rare staging of Gassmann’s Gli uccellatori at Wiener Kammeroper. Conducted by Stefan Gottfried and directed by Jean Renshaw, the production opens on 22 March and runs until 14 April.
As a member of the Junges Ensemble of the Theater an der Wien, Tobias has already sung the title role in Eugene Onegin, Argante (Rinaldo) and Ramiro (L’heure Espagnole) and made recent appearances at Palm Beach Opera as Schaunard (La bohème) and Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Opera Theatre of St Louis as Samuel (Pirates of Penzance) and Wolf Trap Opera as Le Dancaïre (Carmen) and La Mari (Les mamelles de Tirésias). Tobias will revisit Poulenc’s opera at Wiener Kammeroper later this season in the roles of Le Directeur and Le Gendarme.
