Martin Fröst receives the Léonie Sonning Music Prize for 2014

Martin Fröst will be presented with one of the world’s most prestigious music awards – the Léonie Sonning Music Prize — at a ceremony in Copenhagen on 10 May.
Fröst is the first clarinetist to be chosen for the award, which is given for continued outstanding contribution to music. He joins previous laureates including Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sir Georg Solti, Krystian Zimerman and, most recently, Jordi Savall and Sir Simon Rattle.
Fröst gives a week of performances culminating in an evening when will be presented with the award during a concert with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Søndergaard. Fröst gives the Danish premiere of Bent Sørensen’s Serenidad (concerto for clarinet and chamber orchestra); he is also soloist in Anders Hillborg’s Peacock Tales and Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto.
