Jamie Barton crowned Young Singer of the Year at International Opera Awards
9/4/2014
Jamie Barton has been named Young Singer of the Year at the 2014 International Opera Awards.
In winning the Award, Jamie beat strong competition from singers including Pretty Yende, Duncan Rock and Corinne Winters. The prize comes less than a year after Jamie was crowned BBC Cardiff Singer of the World in July 2013.
The International Opera Awards were launched last year by Opera magazine to promote excellence in opera and support emerging talent, and have quickly established themselves as a fixture in the industry calendar. Other winners, announced at a gala event in London on 7 April, include Aldeburgh Festival’s Peter Grimes on the Beach. The production, which was conducted by Steuart Bedford, won in the Anniversary Production category.
