Recordings featuring six HarrisonParrott artists have been awarded prizes in the 2014 International Classical Music Awards. The discs have already garnered awards and critical acclaim since their release.
Oliver Knussen’s Erato recording of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia wins in the Opera category. The CD, released at the beginning of the composer’s centenary year in 2013, has already won an ECHO Klassik Award.
In the Concerto category Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Peter Eötvös’ Naïve album ‘Seven’ is honoured. The disc features violin concertos by Bartok, Ligeti and Eötvös. This release has also won a major award, having been chosen as Gramophone magazine’s Record of the Year for 2013.
Paavo Järvi features as conductor on the winning CD in the Best Collection category: Hindemith’s Violin Concerto and Violin Sonatas on the BIS label, with soloist Frank Peter Zimmerman – a recording which has already won an annual prize from Der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik; whilst Barry Banks is solo tenor in the Choral Works choice – Berlioz’ Grande messe des morts on LSO Live, with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis. The disc was chosen as Gramophone Editor’s Choice in June 2013.
Rounding out the Awards involving HarrisonParrott artists is the winner of the DVD Documentaries category: Refuge in Music – Terezin, on Deutsche Grammophon — which features Anne Sofie von Otter as well as Daniel Hope, Christian Gerhaher and others. The DVD was awarded a Diapason d’Or in November 2013.
ICMA winners were chosen by an international jury featuring representatives of the arts media from 13 countries. The prizes will be awarded at a ceremony in Warsaw on 12 April. The event is part of the 2014 Beethoven Easter Festival, and will also include a gala concert featuring some of this year’s prizewinners.
