Oliver Knussen and Leila Josefowicz return to Japan
22/9/2015
Oliver Knussen returns to Japan after a five year absence to conduct two concerts with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra on 24 and 29 September.
The concerts at Bunka Kaikan (24) and Suntory Hall (29) in Tokyo come as the orchestra celebrate their 50th anniversary year. Leila Josefowicz is the soloist in the first concert, playing Knussen’s Violin Concerto, whilst Peter Serkin plays Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.2 in the second concert. In addition, Knussen conducts works by Miaskovsky, Mussorgsky, Schoenberg and Takemitsu.
Following this engagement Knussen will next be seen conducting in London in October, where he has two concerts with the Britten Sinfonia (Milton Court on 25 and the Barbican on 28), and then he works with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group at the CBSO Centre on 15 November.
