DANI HOWARD’S NEW GUITAR WORK PREMIERED BY JACK HANCHER

You Don’t Have to Tell Me Twice, a new work for solo guitar by Dani Howard, receives its world premiere on 4 November. Howard wrote the work for guitarist Jack Hancher, who performs it as part of a recital at the Royal Over-Seas League club in London. The concert also features music by Bach, Debussy and Albeniz.
Discussing her inspiration, Howard says:
“The piece explores the idea of how the same thing, said in different ways, can in fact mean something very different. To go one step further, it looks into how we often derive different meaning from the same words, spoken by different people. Sometimes you do in fact need to hear it twice (or more).
The piece grows through small ideas involving the natural harmonics of the instrument, in combination with non-harmonics (of the same pitch). These evolve and expand rhythmically, and through changes in tone. The way in which Jack performs these differences and shifts in tone throughout is remarkable…”
