MARCO GALVANI PREMIERES NEW CANTATA AT THE YEHUDI MENUHIN SCHOOL

A new cantata for choir and strings by Marco Galvani entitled The Year’s Midnight premieres at the Yehudi Menuhin School on 13 December as part of the school’s Winter Festival. Commissioned by the school, the cantata is presented alongside Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Vaughan Williams. Marco conducts an ensemble composed of Yehudi Menuhin students. 

The cantata sets six poems written specially for the project by former National Poet of Wales Gillian Clarke.

“When thinking of ideas for a work of this kind, I considered the theme of the transition between winter and spring, with the idea of gradual light emerging across frost-covered fields. The piece begins with deep winter, with the groan of trees in the dark landscape…”
