Ksenija Sidorova: solo recital & chamber music programmes
Sidorova played with verve, style, and attitude, as well as impeccable virtuosity and an amazing dynamic range. Her music-making included a considerable amount of showmanship, as if she were creating performance art, not just playing an instrument.

ACCORDION + SAXOPHONE QUARTET
With the SIGNUM saxophone quartet
“ANIMA“
When the accordion joins the saxophones, all sounds are produced most naturally: by giving air, by breathing. The Latin word « anima » stands for both the Breath and the Spirit & Soul. Indeed, in many cultures, the Breath is considered the site of the Life Force. In their new project ANIMA, Ksenija Sidorova and the SIGNUM saxophone quartet literally breathe new Breath into the music with their very personal interpretation!
Following the idea that diversity is not a privilege but a necessity, the artists have chosen a wide range of music, from Bach, Stravinsky, Gershwin and Piazzolla to contemporary composers such as Vasks and Max Richter.
The interpretation is rich in facets, too, such as our ANIMA is made of character, consciousness, perception, thinking, feeling, sensitiveness… Overcoming any clichés between the cultures on the earth’s North or Southside, with the idea that unites everything: That magic happens together.

Released in June 2016, Ksenija‘s debut album with Deutsche Grammophon is a fascinating take on “Carmen”. The melodies of the world’s most famous opera are re-imagined in captivating Oriental colours and the irresistible rhythms of Latin American dance. Ksenija Sidorova interprets the title role, tracing the passionate, tragic destiny of this iconic Femme Fatale. She is joined by an all-star band of violin, piano, bass, guitar and percussion.Fusing flamenco rhythms, Gypsy jazz and fresh takes on romantic ballads, served up with passion and irresistible, ‘rebellious’ charm, this album completely defies musical boundaries!
“The boldness of Sidorova’s concept, the thoroughness with which she and her colleagues deconstructed the original and the flights of improvisation that peppered the performance made this a singular experience. […] It was the musicianship of her playing that left the deepest impression. The way Sidorova shaped her phrases, toyed with her tempos and shaded her tone colors made even the most understated gestures satisfying to hear. […] In all, a tour de force of imagination, instrumentation and improvisation.” (Carmen at Ravinia Festival, Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune, August 2016)
