The Government of Catalonia has awarded conductor Josep Pons the Creu de Sant Jordi 2025, one of the highest civil distinctions granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, in recognition of his outstanding artistic career and his exceptional contribution to Catalonia’s cultural and musical life.

Since 2012, Josep Pons has served as Music Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, where his visionary leadership has played a key role in shaping and consolidating the institution’s musical project. Thanks to his rigorous and consistent leadership, the orchestra and chorus have shaped a distinctive artistic identity, earning growing acclaim from both audiences and critics.

The Creu de Sant Jordi was established in 1981 and is among the most prestigious recognitions awarded to individuals or institutions for their outstanding service to Catalonia. The Catalan Ministry of Culture put forward the nomination.
