NICOLAS ALTSTAEDT MAKES HIS CONCERTO DEBUT WITH THE SWEDISH RADIO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
31/1/2025
Nicolas Altstaedt makes a long-awaited return to Stockholm’s Berwaldhallen on 6 and 7 February, performing Grażyna Bacewicz’s Cello Concerto No.2 in his début appearance with Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Principal Guest Conductor Designate Maxim Emelyanychev. Also featured are Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonic suite The Love for Three Oranges and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No.41 “Jupiter”.
Grażyna Bacewicz Biernacka (1909 – 1969) was a Polish composer and violinist of Lithuanian origin whose teachers included Nadia Boulanger and Carl Flesch. Her Concerto No.2 for Cello and Orchestra dates from 1963 and combines elements of old motivic work and traditional form with pure sonorous transparency, far removed from the monumental nature of many of Bacewicz’s previous works.
