Víkingur Ólafsson’s recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, released in October 2023 on Deutsche Grammophon, has been nominated for Best Classical Instrumental Solo at the GRAMMY Awards.
Having “dreamed of recording this work for 25 years”, Ólafsson devoted his entire 2023 – 24 season to the work, performing it 88 times across six continents.
“I am so honoured and happy to receive my first GRAMMY nomination!”, says Ólafsson. “Thank you so much to all of you who listen to and support my work. And thank you to J.S. Bach for writing this glorious and incomparable piece of music. The Goldberg Variations will always be the music of the future.”
Nonesuch’s “rich and energetic” (The Guardian) disc of John Adams’ Girls of the Golden West is nominated in three categories: Best Engineered Album, Classical, Producer of the Year, Classical and Best Opera Recording. This 2023 live recording is the first of his 2017 opera. It features John conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale alongside much of the original cast, including HP VOICE’s Paul Appleby in the role of Joe Cannon.
