Returning to Opéra national de Paris to make her debut as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Aude Extrémo has captured the hearts of the audience and critics alike. Performances of Robert Wilson’s production, conducted by Speranza Scappucci, run through 25 October.
“Aude Extrémo, the only one to stand out from the leading quartet, as Suzuki, brings us a rich voice raised on the milk of Erda – the Wagnerian goddess – less servant than maternal shadow, watchful over the ensembles and making the Flower Duet a tragic and affecting moment”. — Forum Opera, September 2024
“Aude Extrémo as Suzuki confirms the excellent impression she made on us in the role of Yamina in Holmès’ La Montagne noire, seen in May in Dortmund. The voice is broad and superb throughout the tessitura, the timbre is classy, the phrasing is modelled and supple. The nuances are perfectly mastered and her empathy for her unfortunate mistress can be heard in every note. She seems to free herself more than her partners from a fixed gesture, letting the sum of contradictory feelings that agitate her character pass through her singing alone. The Flower Duet (“Scuoti quella fronda”) is one of the highlights of the evening. — Cult News, September 2024
“Aude Extrémo brings to Suzuki her warm and dark voice, maintaining agility and a beautiful depth of timbre throughout her range. The French singer also convinces with a precise performance with clear intentions, delicately supporting the heroine’s pain. — Olyrix, September 2024
