Eight HarrisonParrott and Polyarts artists & orchestras attend Edinburgh International Festival 2024
Bamberger Symphoniker performs a three-concert residency on 6, 7 and 9 August featuring Dvořák’s Symphony No.9, Bruckner’s Symphonic Prelude and Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.
On 7 August, Sol Gabetta collaborates with Isabelle Faust in a stirring rendition of Brahms’ Double Concerto, accompanied by Bamberger Symphoniker under the baton of Jakub Hrůša. This performance marks the participation of Jakub Hrůša and Bamberg Symphony as one of the resident ensembles at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival. Drawing inspiration from a quote by Adelbert von Chamisso, “Love is not a solo. Love is a duet,” the two soloists unite in Brahms’ concerto to seamlessly blend their artistry into what the composer envisioned as a “giant eight-stringed violin.”
Golda Schultz sings Fiordiligi in a concert performance of Così fan tutte with Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Maxim Emelyanychev at Usher Hall on 10 August.
On 16 August, with European Union Youth Orchestra, Nicolas Altstaedt performs Strauss’ Don Quixote and the programme also features Polyarts composer Carlos Simon’s Fate now conquers.
On 21 August, Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs a collection of pieces from Schoenberg and other composers who followed his ideas, from the intense micro-dramas of Schoenberg’s Six Little Piano Pieces, to the immense cumulative power of his Piano Pieces.
Philharmonia Orchestra and its Principal Conductor Santtu-Mathias Rouvali return to the Edinburgh International Festival on 24 August at Usher Hall with Jennifer Johnston for Verdi’s Messa da Requiem.
