8 HarrisonParrott and Birdsong Artists attend the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence
Deepa Johnny returns to the festival as Penelope in Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria with Leonardo García Alarcón and Cappella Mediterranea. Pierre Audi is the director and performances take place at Théâtre du Jeu de Paume from 17 to 23 July.
Deepa also presents a solo recital as part of the pre-festival series, Aix en juin, at the Abbaye de Silvacane. The programme includes Viardot, Ravel, Cesti and more and takes place on 15 June.
Jacquelyn Stucker and Julie Roset appear as Dalila and L’Ange respectively in the world premiere of Rameau’s Samson. Rameau’s lost score which he wrote for Voltaire’s libretto has been painstakingly revived by Claus Guth and Raphaël Pichon and is now performed at Théâtre de l’Archevêché with Ensemble Pygmalion. Performances take place from 4 to 18 July.
Pierre Bleuse conducts a new production at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence from 6 to 14 July, Patricia Kopatchinskaja is collaborating with soprano Anna Prohaska in the music-theatre work Songs and Fragments, directed by Barrie Kosky.
Birdsong composer Charlotte Bray’s A Sky Too Small premieres with Orchestre de Paris conducted by Klaus Mäkelä on 13 July and on 14 July. The 7‑minute work was co-commissioned by Orchestre de Paris and the festival. It receives further performances in Paris in December 2024. The programme also features Stravinsky’s Suite No.1 and No.2, Schubert’s Symphony No.3 and Beethoven’s Symphony No.4.
