Jiří Rožeň conducts Gothenburg Opera
26/4/2024
On 5 May, Jiří Rožeň conducts Gothenburg Opera in a repertoire of music by Smetana, celebrating the bicentennial of the composer’s birth. Having last visited the orchestra in 2022 with performances of Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride, Rožeň returns with a concert programme of excerpts from Smetana’s operas My Fatherland, The Two Widows, and Dalibor, as well as the symphonic poems Hakon Jarl and The Moldau.
In the coming months, highlights also include the Czech premiere of the (1996) opera Le Grand Macabre by Hungarian composer Ligeti, as part of Prague State Opera’s Opera Nova Festival, of which he is also Artistic Curator.
