On 25 April, Tamara Stefanovich returns to Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal to perform Charles Ives’ rarely heard Piano Sonata No.1.

“Listening to Ives’ first sonata can feel a little bit like walking through a foreign city without a map,” Stefanovich says. ​“You hear a few bars of church music, a marching band, or a ragtime tune wafting from an open window.”

The programme further includes Sonatas by C.P.E. Bach, Scarlatti, Soler, Eisler and Bartók.
