19/1/2024
Recently acclaimed by Hungary Today as “an outstanding figure in contemporary music”, composer and conductor Péter Eötvös celebrates his 80th birthday this January. Among the events marking this momentous milestone is the world premiere on 18 January of the Eötvös’ new Harp Concerto performed by Xavier de Maistre and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by jointly Gergely Madaras and Sofi Jeannin, with the latter heading the Maîtrise de Radio France. Also featured in the programme are Eötvös’ compositions Haikus and Halleluja – Oratorium Balbulum, with Fermata having been performed earlier this month (also in Paris) to great acclaim by Ensemble Intercontemporain.
Eötvös’ Harp Concerto is also set to receive further national premieres throughout the coming months in Germany on 25 February, Switzerland on 2 March, Portugal on 18 May, Japan on 28 May and Austria on 4 June.
