Decca Classics re-releases Jean-Yves Thibaudet’s ‘Debussy’ on Limited Edition Vinyl and CD
24/11/2023
Jean-Yves Thibaudet’s Debussy album is re-released today in the UK (24 November) in limited edition Vinyl and CD. The striking cover artwork was designed by the late Vivienne Westwood shortly before her passing in December 2022. In the years since they were first heard as part of the 1996 Decca release Debussy: Complete Works for Piano, Thibaudet’s recordings continue to rank among the most well-regarded interpretations of the Préludes. WQXR named the collection among its 20 Essential Debussy Recordings, declaring that “Jean-Yves Thibaudet is one of today’s finest interpreters of French pianistic repertoire, and whether he’s evoking the sombre majesty of an underwater cathedral or the innocent delicacy of The Girl with the Flaxen Hair, this particular recording shows his innate understanding of what Debussy was about: wonderful control, subtlety, and expertly judged tempo and rubato.”
Thibaudet is also a noted concert interpreter of Debussy’s piano works and has performed the Préludes in recital on numerous occasions. He is currently in the midst of a multi-season focus on Debussy’s Préludes, which has seen him perform both books in their entirety at recitals around the world in venues include Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, Santa Cecilia in Rome, Disney Hall in Los Angeles and Carnegie Hall in New York. Upcoming recital dates include engagements in KKL Lucerne (19 January), Auditorium National de Lyon (22 January), The Barbican London (24 January).
