Daniel Okulitch and Barry Banks in Pulitzer Prize winning Omar at San Francisco Opera

Daniel Okulitch and Barry Banks reprise their roles of Johnson/Owen and Auctioneer/Taylor in the Pulizter prize winning Omar by Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels, opening on 5 November. Omar is based on the story of scholar Omar Ibn Said who was sold into slavery in South Carolina in the 1800s. The opera is conducted by John Kennedy and directed by Kaneza Schaal, and runs until 21 November.
Okulitch is familiar to San Francisco audiences having performed in The Mother of Us All and in Billy Budd previously. Later this season he has engagements in his home-country, Canada, for the Opera de Montreal production of La Reine-Garcon and with Manitoba Opera for the role-debut of Escamillo (Carmen). Banks will perform the role of Mime with Los Angeles Philharmonic in a fully-staged production of Das Rheingold under Gustavo Dudamel.
