October takes Arts Partnerships & Tours to Europe and Asia

From Taiwan to Belgium, our Arts Partnerships and Tours team are travelling the globe this month across Europe and Asia.
Firstly, the team travels to Macao for the grand opening of the 35th Macao International Music Festival, where they have co-produced and cast the revival of Martyn Lyngbo’s Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Among others, Baritone Xiaomeng Zhang and Mezzo-soprano Hongni Wu will join the Macao Orchestra from 6 to 8 October
Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra and István Várdai embark on a tour of South America with concerts in Gran Teatro Nacional de Lima (Peru) on 9 October and Sala Sao Paulo (Brazil) on 11 October. It is a programme inspired by Hungarian music and features Lajos Sarkozy Ensemble playing traditional and gypsy tunes interspersed among the classical pieces.
From Macao to Taiwan, the team then take London Philharmonic Orchestra to National Concert Hall Taipei for two concerts on 10 and 11 October. Alongside conductor Edward Gardner and soloist William Wei, the programme is all about the Romantic imagination, whether the storm-tossed melodies of Mendelssohn’s Scottish seascape, or the icy vistas and fiery heart of Sibelius’ only violin concerto.
Music Director of Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg Gustavo Gimeno leads his orchestra at deSingel in Antwerp on 13 October for a programme devoted to Brahms, including his Symphony No.4 and Piano Concerto in D minor performed by star-soloist Hélène Grimaud.
From Europe and back to Asia, our Arts and Partnership team take Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich on a tour of eight concerts this October alongside their Music Director Paavo Järvi. The first two concerts at Daegu Concert House in South Korea on 12 October and Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on 13 October include Beethoven’s Symphony No.5, Brahms’ Symphony No.1 and Nielsen’s Violin Concerto performed by soloist Bomsori Kim.
The next six concerts at Harmonie Cinq Kitakuyshu Soleil Hall on 15 October, Suntory Hall on 16 and 18 October, Muse Tokorozawa (Civic Cultural Centre) on 19 October, Fuji Rose Theatre on 20 October and the Symphony Hall Osaka on 21 October include Beethoven’s Symphony No.5, Brahms’ Symphony No.1 and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Bruce Liu.
To end a busy month of tours, Klaus Mäkelä and Oslo Philharmonic embark on a three-week tour to three countries in Asia. First stop is Japan, with the first concert at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre on 18 October for a programme celebrating Sibelius with his Symphony No.2 and 5. Then it is on to Hamamatsu Act City Concert Hall on 20 October, this time for Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Piano Concerto No. 2 (performed by Nobuyuki Tsujii), and Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben.
The tour continues on to Aichi Prefectural Art Theater Concert Hall in Nagoya on 21 October and Festival Hall Osaka on 22 October. The orchestra perform twice at Suntory Hall, Tokyo on 23 and 24 October before travelling to Kumamoto Prefectural Theatre on 26 October. The tour then travels to South Korea where the orchestra is joined by soloist Janine Jansen for concerts at Goyang Aram Nuri Arts Center on 28 October and Lotte Concert Hall on 30 October. . The tour concludes in Taiwan with concerts at National Centre for the Arts Weiwuying in Kaohsiung on 2 November and finally National Concert Hall Taipei on 3 and 4 November.
