Six HP Artists win at OPUS Klassik Awards 2023

Congratulations to six of our artists who have won awards at this year's Opus Klassik Awards. The ceremony will take place in early October. Congratulations to all our artists who were nominated.

Víkingur Ólafsson is awarded Opus Klassik 2023 Instrumentalist of the Year, for his latest album, From Afar. This is Ólafsson’s fifth album as an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist which has led to career streams of over 600 million. 

The award follows two previous Opus Klassik wins for Solo Recording, Instrumental in 2019 and 2020 for two of his other Deutsche Grammophon albums.

Eldbjørg Hemsing receives an Opus Klassik Award in the category Classic without Limits for her recording of the concept album Arctic with Arctic Philharmonic and Christian Kluxen, a musical journey through a stunningly beautiful region and a celebration of a fragile and largely unexplored ecosystem threatened by climate change. It combines unique and memorable melodies with a vivid orchestral sound that matches the grand panorama of the Arctic.

Sean Shibe​’s masterfully-crafted Lost & Found wins the OPUS Klassik 2023 Award for Solo Instrument. Described as ​“beguiling” (NPR Music) and ​“bonkers but brilliantly curated” (The Guardian), the eclectic album – Sean’s second release with Pentatone – draws on a plethora of sources from Chick Corea and Moondog to Olivier Messiaen and Hildegard von Bingen, resulting in a captivating blend of arrangements, inspirations and interpretations that have proven popular with listeners across the spectrum.

Bertrand Chamayou wins an Opus Klassik 2023 Award in the Solo Instrument category with his latest CD: Messiaens Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus.

Xavier de Maistre wins the Instrumentalist category for his album Glière, Mosolov: Harp Concerto, recorded with Nathalie Stutzmann and WDR Sinfonieorchester, released in September 2022 on Sony Classical.

Christian Tetzlaff wins the OPUS Klassik 2023 Award for Chamber Music Recording with the Tetzlaff Trio. The trio, where Christian plays alongside Tanja Tetzlaff and Lars Vogt, wins the honour for their recording of the Schubert Piano Trios. Misha Donat of BBC Music Magazine says, ​“this very well recorded collection is one to treasure”. 

Christian and Tanja dedicate the album to the memory of Lars Vogt.
